academics shoot preview

Best story

This has the best story because it emphasizes how sad goodbyes are for a graduating student and his/her family. In this picture we see a woman hugging a student (presumably her son).

Emotion

Well, this is boring, and that is exactly the emotion this picture gives to the viewer. Here we have a picture of a girl who has her hand to her cheek in an attempt to keep her head from drooping. Yes, this girl seems very bored, and just by looking at this picture, a person can see how boring studying is.

Fills the frame

A picture of a party is sure to keep the viewer hunting for anything interesting in the background. There is no space wasted at all in this picture, every bit of it is taken up by students attending the party. Though the subject is the male singing, the people in the background are still visible, therefore, this picture takes up the entire frame.

Why did I pick this?

I picked this photo because it seems as though the people in the picture are having fun.

The rule that applies to this photo is the rule of balance. There are four people in the picture. two on the corners, and two in the middle.

Composition Shoot

  1. The rule of lines was followed quite well in my opinion.
  2. The subject is the boy walking along the stone path
  3. It is very clear as to who the subject is, as he is the only one along the path, and the line practically points to him.
  4. I feel that this picture is wonderful, and I really don't think I would take something differently, except for taking a slightly brighter picture.

  1. I feel that this picture was taken in a way that it could be two rules both balance and rule of thirds, even though my intent was to make it a rule of thirds photo.
  2. The subject was the girl in red.
  3. Though she stands out and is supposed to be the main subject, to some it may seem that the big tree is the subject.
  4. I possibly could have emphasized that the girl is the main subject by making her move a little bit forward and including less of the tree in the photo.

  1. Oh my Lord! Is that a tree growing out of her head?! Oh, no, this is just a bad merger. I feel that the avoiding mergers rule was not applied here, instead, I intentionally created one.
  2. The subject in the photo is the girl squatting under the tree.
  3. Yes it is clear that the girl is the subject of the photo
  4. If I was to not create a merger, I would take the background into consideration, and make sure that after I took the picture, it does not seem to mix into the subject.

  1. Here we have a simple picture. I feel that the simplicity rule was followed well in this photo.
  2. The subject in the photo is the girl.
  3. Yes, I feel that she would be instantly seen by someone viewing the picture, considering that she is the only thing in the picture.
  4. I feel like this picture is wonderful for a simple picture, and I would not really do anything differently to change it.

  1. I feel that the rule of framing was followed well in this photograph.
  2. The subject in the photo is the girl in red.
  3. The viewer knows that the subject is the girl because the walls practically frame her on the picture and highlight that she is there.
  4. I really like how the walls and the ceiling enclose the girl in a natural frame, and I would not really do anything differently to it.

  1. I feel that this photo is decent and kind of follows the balancing rule.
  2. The subject is the person wearing a blue hoodie.
  3. The viewer can tell that the person is the subject.
  4. What I could have done better is take into account the background, and get rid of the random window. Also I could have positioned the camera straighter, because this picture looks lopsided and messes with the balance.

Reflection:

  • One of the problems I faced during the shoot was that I could not get the lens to focus correctly. For example, when I was taking the simplicity picture I could not get the lens to focus only on the subject and blur out the background. In order to get a good shot, I simply moved around. I moved to a completely blank background to take the simplicity picture, and when I took it, it actually ended up being pretty good. Another problem was that I could not keep the camera straight. An example would be the balancing photo. This picture seems kind of lopsided when looked at, and I feel that this slightly messes with the intended balance of the shot. These were some of the problems I encountered.

  • The technical aspects that I kept in mind were the positioning of the subjects, the lighting, and the angle in which the pictures were taken. An example is the rule of thirds photo. For this photo, I had to move around because sometimes the sun created a reflection on the lens and if I just took a picture, it would have a yellow orb in the middle. Not only that, but if I moved around too much, I would mess with the position of the subjects, so I had to constantly look through the lens so that I would not mess up the photo.

That one morning

I was on my way to school. The morning was crisp and clear, the sun barely rising from the horizon. On the drive to school, when I was close to arriving, I heard a loud snap. I got cold sweat thinking that it was my car, but then I realized my car was still intact. I parked in the parking lot at the side of the school near the road where I always do, but then something caught my attention. When I looked out to the road, there was a single rolling tire making it’s way down the middle of South 1st street. Then when I opened the door to get a better look, I immediately got hit with the smell of burning rubber. A smell that made my eyes water, and a smell that I could actually taste. It was strong sensation that reminded me of licking ashes. Then, something else occurred that I found rather peculiar. A student that was on the sidewalk rushed out into the middle of the street in order to move the burning tire off to the side, while his friend signaled to a nearby police officer. The student rushed out in the middle of growing traffic, just to remove the obstacle. I overheard the conversation that that student had with the officer, and he said, “Well the rubber was hot, but I wouldn’t want anyone else to have a problem.”

Who is this man?

He is wearing a camouflage jacket, along with a hoodie inside it.

His hairstyle is very unkept, with what appears to be a green streak in his dark mass of hair.

His face looks aged, and haggard. Teeth look yellow.

There is a Lowe's in the background therefore indicating that he is in the U.S. possibly in Texas.

Looks homeless.

His name is Ted Williams.

  • When he speaks, how does he sound
  • What makes Ted Williams' story so important
  • 3 details that make his life story interesting
He sounds like a professional reporters authoritative, clean, and crisp voice. He learned how to use that voice, and learned to harness it's uses. It is very deep, strong, and comprehensible.

He was found panhandling at the median. later he was at the side of the road.

The story is a human interest story. Ted W. lives on the streets, he has been sober for 2 years after being on drugs and alcohol, but even so, he carries hope, and strives to get a job. This story is important because it shows that because we pass by people on the streets, we do not give them a chance to express their potential, and their talents.

The thing tha makes this interesting is that even after his hard life, Ted was given a second chance.
